Plays as Literary Texts

Sat 23 Feb 2013

Theatre-makers and playwrights featured in the National Play Festival discuss the literary value of writing for performance. Does a play exist if it's not on a stage? Can a script on its own be ‘read’ in the same way as a novel or an essay?

Jane Bodie, playwright+ Associate Artist at Griffin Theatre Company (NSW) Humphrey Bower, playwright (WA) Angus Cerini, playwright Scowl (VIC) Sally Richardson, playwright and director with Performing Lines WA (WA)

The National Play Festival 2013 is an annual celebration of new writing for the stage, bringing together the finest playwrights from Western Australia and around the country. The event is happening in Perth for the first time from 21-24 February, featuring new play readings, artists talks and special presentations.
